Juwan K. Skeens for Boston City Council District 4

My Story

Hey Neighbor,

My name is Juwan K. Skeens, and I am proud to be your candidate for Boston City Council, representing District 4 in 2025!

Born and raised in Dorchester, I’m a proud African American whose family has owned property in the neighborhood for over 50 years. As a Boston Public School graduate of The Joseph Lee School, Timilty Middle School, and Excel High School, I honed my leadership skills early on as a Junior Varsity Debate Champion with the Boston Debate League and as Senior Class President.

My passion for service deepened as the Neighborhood Liaison to District 4 under then-City Council President Andrea Campbell (2016–2018). In this role, I had the privilege of connecting neighbors and businesses across Dorchester, Roxbury, and Mattapan to city, state, and federal resources. I attended zoning board meetings, worked with nearly 20 civic associations monthly, and initiated impactful projects like Grove Hall in Color and the Boston Youth Expo, empowering youth and families with opportunities.

From 2018 to 2020, I served as a Youth Worker at the BCYF/Jackson Mann Community Center, mentoring teens and leading entrepreneurial initiatives like Boston Body Butter, which earned recognition on the Boston City Council floor. As a COVID Community Educator for The Boston Project Ministries, I supported public health education during the pandemic and continued to serve my community as a Community Organizer for Redefining Our Community (ROC) Neighborhood Association. Together, we’ve tackled issues of public safety, petitioned for critical changes, and established a community-led Life Skills Training and Wellness Center to promote generational wealth and wellness.

Since December 2022, I’ve had the honor of serving as an Affiliated Board Member of the Codman Square Neighborhood Council, a pivotal organization advocating for equitable development, housing security, and community enrichment. Through this role, I’ve collaborated with residents and stakeholders to address pressing local issues and create pathways for growth and prosperity.

In 2024, I earned an Associate’s Degree in Business Management from Southern New Hampshire University and launched my entrepreneurial journey as the Executive Director of By Believe Inspire Repeat Tree House (BBIRTH, Inc.), a Boston-based nonprofit.

My mission is simple: to ensure that our community has the representation, resources, and voice it deserves. As your next Boston City Councilor for District 4, I promise to be Reliable, Accessible, Transparent, and Effective. Together, we’ll build bridges, connect our community, and make lasting progress for future generations.

In 2025, let’s move forward together. Cast your vote for Juwan K. Skeens—because our community deserves more!

Kind regards,
